Why will the ministers not resign

While I write this Indian political scene is witnessing something it has never witnessed before...or may be it witnessed the same decades back in the dark nights of 1977.

Last week the news broke out that the law minster has been tampering with the CBI reports on the investigation in which the same set of people who are accused of causing the nation loss of trillions of dollars of revenue were found reviewing the report. After the news leaked in  media that law minster called the CBI to tamper with the reports we have heard all kind of arguments from the ruling party initially it was blatantly refused that anything ever happened like that, then when the supreme court asked the CBI to file a affidavit and the govt was caught red handed by the CBI’s affidavit the line of argument changed that the law minster has indeed the prerogative to check the investigation report for an investigation against his own govt and that he can indeed dictate changes in the report. CBI director said the worst kept secret in New Delhi that is that the CBI is not independent and it is indeed a parrot of his political masters.

Later after the observations made by SC the ruling party argued back that nothing has been said on the law minster as if the SC now has taken over the PM’s role of appointing and removing his set of cabinet ministers. The courts were however loud and clear they called the CBI a pet of the ruling party, asked the law minister what was he doing with the reports and also asked specifically why were they so interested in PE 2 report which actually throws a light on the coal allocation done when coal minister or the accused was no one other than Prime minister Manmohan Singh himself during the period 2006-2009.

While watching the debates on television I was disgusted by the arguments given by govt spokesperson defending every act of their misdeed. The intension of the arguments was simple, nothing short of being asked by the Supreme Court to the law minster will be considered against the law minster. The govt is playing its game well they know Supreme Court is not supposed to pass such judgment.  Never has been a political party so shamelessly defended its wrong doing and has been so brazen about it.

There could be different theories which we can assume of what is going on in govt mind and what is the reason for this brazenness. However things become clearer and a lot simpler when we focus on what did the news covered on what Sonia Gandhi’s stand is on these corrupt ministers in their words “Sonia Gandhi does is not in favor of ministers being continuing “which effectively means that it is Manmohan Singh who is holding back the minsters from resigning even though Sonia Gandhi did wanted action against the corrupt. This whole situation needs to be looked upon very carefully and need to be explored to see if this incident holds any answers to the why is this arrogance and brazenness shown by the ruling party. I see this whole thing in two parts working in tandem with each other

Part 1 : The congress party looks like has virtually conceded that they will not return to power in 2014 and are therefore preparing themselves for a probably hung parliament in 2014, the statement that Sonia Gandhi does not want minsters to continue holds immense significance as because if she really didn’t wanted the ministers to continue they would have been thrown out of not only govt but out of party till now, so why does she gave away her power to throw them out and instead allowed Manmohan Singh to use his decision making abilities when the whole world knows that PM had never any such authority. The answer could be simple and it appears that may be Manmohan Singh has indeed become a liability for the congress and much like his previous predecessor PV Narasimha Rao who bore the brunt of Babri masjid demolition Manmohan Singh will become synonymous with Corruption and miss-governance. Come 2014 and the expiry date passed Manmohan Singh will be made the reason that govt could not make decisions on corruption. This will indeed keep the heir in line of the dynasty neat and clean of any mud of 9 years of unprecedented loot and rape of every natural resource and institution of this country. The congress knows somewhere that it will not be able to come back to power in 2014 and is therefore hoping for a hung parliament a best case scenario for them which may happen if the anti-congress votes will get divided among different parties on the most absurd argument of communal and secular. A third front govt with outside support of congress which dies half way mark is in best interest of the congress party and is a ticket for them to return back to power somewhere around 2017 when the prince can take in charge of the grand old party of this country.

Part 2 : I see a  further extension to my Part 1 .While a lot of people may take it with lot of skepticism it sounds like we witnessing something which we have heard from our elders who witnessed something similar when democracy was put behind bars and emergency was imposed in India in 1977.The year was when Smt. Indira Gandhi was heading an equally arrogant govt which cared little about public opinion .If I hear the arguments these days by the spokespersons of the ruling party we can clearly hear it out. The line of the argument is whatever kind of corruption they are involved in the only right people will have to say something to them will be when they give you a chance to vote back in 2014.Normal rules of law does not seems to apply to these men and parliamentary democracy is a word that is so misused to protect the naked dance of corruption that these men are indulged.

No party would have dared to do it had it been sure of being decimated in the coming elections. The only reason that the govt goes back to voting argument again and again is that govt somehow believes that the next elections will indeed throw a hung parliament and the new govt will be indeed from their external support and this is the reason what I could give for so little respect for any public opinion. The current govt lacks the guts but his intensions are as sinister as we have seen in the past when congress had tried to kill every Institution on which democracy is established. Be it JPC, CVC, CBI, Lokpal or even the parliament they have shown no respect to the constitution of India in the true spirit of the land. While the opposition has tried hard to bring the govt in dock the lack of popular public sentiment in their side is causing equally debatable steps taken by them to bring the issue of corruption on the front. The main opposition party which is aplenty of excellent speakers is somehow deciding not to discuss the issues in parliament where their great orators would have ripped apart the govt defense in parliament or maybe they have realized that the govt is not even in mood to allow them to have a good debate.

But among all these things there is something we are assuming, and we are assuming that the next parliament would be a hung parliament. No one has given the main opposition party even a benefit of doubt that it may spring a surprise and may indeed reach near the magic number. It looks unlikely considering that India has a broken polity and as of today regional parties seems to be taking away a lot of anti – congress votes rather than the BJP getting a benefit out of it. But then the Indian electorate is mature enough to vote to the right party when the time has come. All the scams of central govt didn’t stop the voters to throw out an equally corrupt BJP govt in Karnataka. Congress did not have had a strong presence there but still the verdict was so loud and clear that they got complete majority. Could this be the way that the voters will vote in 2014 picking between the two original national parties or am I reading too much into the Karnataka verdict as the congress polled just 2 percent higher vote than their previous election and it was indeed a broken house in BJP which actually helped the verdict come so loud and clear. For this we will have to wait to see how the voters vote in 2013-2014 and may be till that time will have to learn to live with this arrogance and brazenness… and yes indeed we are going to witness one of the darkest years of Indian democracy till then.
